  • CTA: Your pop-up should include a clear, compelling CTA (Call to Action), driving users towards the objective of your pop-up. The CTA could be directly linked to an incentive you’re offering, such as ‘Get Discount Code Now!’.

67% of Americans ages 16 to 24 claim that they’ve learned about a product or service via social media, making it a powerful marketing channel for growing your subscriber base (Emarketer).

There are a range of different strategies you can deploy to drive traffic to email sign-up pages and collect email addresses. 

Here are some of my favorite methods that I’ve found to be the most successful.

Social media bios and profile links are prime real estate for mailing list sign-ups. They’re often one of the first sections users see when they follow a brand on social media, and you can often embed a link that users can click to learn more about your brand.

Why not include a link to sign up for your mailing list to attract new subscribers? If the bio only allows for one clickable link, you could use a tool to create a landing page with multiple links such as Linktr.ee or Instapag, and include links to your website, other social media pages, and your sign-up forms.

Lead Capture Ads

Many social media platforms offer paid lead capture ads, allowing users to submit their information without leaving the platform/website.

Lead capture ads can be a useful method for lead generation and can be linked with your CMS (Customer Management System) directly or added to mailing lists manually.

Here are some examples of social media platforms offering paid lead-capture ads:

  • Facebook: Lead ads on Facebook are promoted forms that request specific details from a user such as name, email address, and postcode. This data can be sent to a CMS system or downloaded externally.

  • Instagram: Like Facebook, Instagram offers lead ads to gather information from its users with pre-fill forms being highly popular. This allows creators to pre-populate a form with a user’s data such as email address, name, and phone number, making it easy for a user to simply click ‘Submit’ without having to manually enter all their details.

  • LinkedIn: Lead gen forms on LinkedIn are another way of generating user data on social media. They’re available via Message Ads and Sponsored InMail on LinkedIn and can use profile information to pre-fill fields like with Instagram.

  • YouTube: Action Ads on YouTube allow advertisers to promote lead generation when creating ads on its platform. Simply select ‘Leads’ when setting up a YouTube advert, and a form will be created for users to complete.

  • Buying behavior: Learning subscribers’ buying behavior is a super important metric, as it may tell you how long a user may take to convert or if they require an incentive to make a purchase.

Plan an engaging quiz/poll that is short and easy to complete. There are many tools online that can help with this such as ScoreApp, SurveyMonkey, and Qzzr.

Email list hygiene is the process of managing and maintaining the quality of your subscriber data, and your email lists need to be spotless if you want a cohort of active, engaged users to market to.

To keep an email list clean and updated, make sure you’re carrying out the following steps:

  • Purging: Regularly purge your lists to remove email addresses that are inactive, unengaged, invalid, or unsubscribed. Removing these email addresses will make your list smaller but more focused towards subscribers that are engaged with your brand.

  • Make Unsubscribing Easy: This may sound counter-intuitive; but if a subscriber wants to unsubscribe, it’s best to make it as easy as possible for them. We can’t win them all, so don’t make someone’s life difficult if they want to leave – ultimately, they’re not looking for what you offer.

  • Remove Duplicates: If you have a subscriber email listed more than once, you may be sending them duplicate emails, which is annoying and may increase spam scores. Remove duplicate emails to prevent this from happening.
