beehiiv Pricing Plans FAQ
Everything you need to know about the new plans and updates at beehiiv.
Welcome! But first, a quick introduction to some common terminology to help make this easier for you…
Plan: a type of account we offer that provides you access to certain features. We currently offer 4 plans: Launch, Scale, Max, Enterprise. We used to offer a plan called Grow, which is no longer available.
Subscriber: this is commonly also referred to as a “contact” or “email.” These are people who are subscribed to a publication/newsletter within your account.
Subscriber Tier: we are transitioning to a new tier-based model where you pay a different amount based on the # of subscribers you have in your account. Each tier has an upper limit of subscribers, which we’ll refer to as the Subscriber Tier.
Example: I am on the Scale plan 10,000 subscriber tier. This means I have access to the features on the Scale plan and am paying for up to 10,000 subscribers.
Subscriber Limit: this is the maximum number of subscribers a plan allows you to have. Beyond this limit of subscribers, that plan is no longer available.
Example: The free Launch plan has a subscriber limit of 2,500 active subscribers. Both the Scale and Max plans have an upper limit of 100,000 subscribers. Beyond 100,000 subscribers requires an Enterprise plan.
Publications: these can be synonymous with “newsletters” or “lists” and are the separate mailing lists and entities within your account. A publication consists of subscribers, posts, automations, website, etc.
Example: The Launch and Scale plans allow users to have up to 3 publications within their account, and the Max plan allows up to 10 publications.
What are the new subscriber tiers?
Prior to Friday April 19, 2024, we had a single Scale account that allowed up to 100,000 subscribers all within a single price point. With our new plans, we are transitioning to a tier-based model that changes different amounts at different subscriber tiers. This allows smaller users to pay less, and larger users to pay the most competitive price in the industry to access all of the premium features we offer. You can view the full breakdown of the plans and limits here.
Is beehiiv getting more expensive for me?
It depends. Nearly 70% of our users are either receiving a discount to what they were previously paying, or now have access to more features while keeping their monthly billing the same.
Overall, it’s dependent on what plan you were on previously, and how many subscribers you have in your account. A large majority of our smaller users are likely to receive some sort of discount with the changes. However, larger users are likely to transition to a slightly more expensive plan beginning in August. You can view this chart to see how much you’ll begin paying on or after August 1, 2024.
I was on the Grow plan paying $49/month. I don’t see that plan anymore, what happened?
As of 11:00 am on Friday April 19, 2024, the Grow plan no longer exists within beehiiv. At that time, all accounts previously on the Grow plan were upgraded to the Scale plan (fully equipped with all the awesome Scale features).
If your account has under 1,000 subscribers, you will actually receive a $10 discount starting on your next billing cycle and begin paying just $39/month (as long as you remain in the 1,000 subscriber tier).
If your account has over 1,000 subscribers, your new Scale plan will eventually be slightly more expensive. However, your price increase will not go into effect until your first billing cycle on or after August 1, 2024.
However, you are able to lock-in your current price and avoid any increase for an additional year by upgrading to an annual plan prior to August 1, 2024.
I was told the price of my new plan will be increasing. When is that happening?
Users who are facing a price increase with the latest changes will NOT have their billing impacted immediately. Their billing cycle will remain unchanged, and they will pay the new updated price on their first billing statement on or after August 1, 2024.
I have never paid for beehiiv, how does this impact me?
If you were previously on our free Launch plan, the only impact you’ll notice is that we have added a few additional features to the Launch plan to make it even more powerful than before: Unlimited Audience Segmentation, API Access, Custom Domains.
Is there still a subscriber limit for the free Launch plan?
Yes, the free Launch plan still has an upper limit of 2,500 active subscribers.
Are there subscriber limits for the Scale and Max plans?
Yes, both the Scale and Max plans have an upper limit of 100,000 subscribers. Beyond 100,000 subscribers you will transition into a custom billing plan and be upgraded to an Enterprise account.
I’m currently a paying user on a monthly subscription, but I don’t want to have my price increased. What can I do?
If you’d like to avoid paying the new prices immediately, you do have the option to upgrade to an annual plan at your current price for the next year. Users who upgrade to an annual plan will access all features on the Scale plan and lock-in their current price for an additional year.
Former monthly Grow users → upgrade for $499/year
Current monthly Scale users → upgrade for $999/year
*Note that by upgrading to an annual payment, you are also receiving an additional ~16% discount relative to what you’d pay monthly.
What happens if I am already on an annual plan?
You don’t need to take any action and your plan will automatically renew at the same price as before (either $499/year for previous Grow users or $999/year for previous Scale users). This would allow you to avoid the price increase for at least an additional year from your next billing date.
If I upgrade to an annual plan to lock-in my current pricing, what happens if I surpass one of the new subscriber tiers?
Because your pricing is associated with a legacy plan that existed prior to when subscriber tiers existed, you will not be impacted or charged based on surpassing the subscriber tiers. The only exception here is if you were to exceed 100,000 subscribers, which puts you into an Enterprise account. In that circumstance, you will work with a member of our Customer Success Team to establish a custom billing arrangement that works well for your team.
What if I’m currently on a free trial?
Don’t worry, your free trial will not be impacted. All users who sign up to beehiiv will still receive a complimentary 30 day free trial of our Scale plan. At any time during or after the trial, you will be given the option to upgrade to a plan of your choice. Because we don’t collect your credit card prior to using the platform, there’s no action needed to discontinue using the platform. At the conclusion of your trial you will simply lose access to the features on the Scale plan and be downgraded to the free Launch plan until you decide to upgrade and resume in the future.
What is the Max plan?
It’s a brand new plan we created based on some of the most common requests we receive from our users:
Removing beehiiv branding from emails and websites
Allowing more than 3 publications on an account
Access to NewsletterXP
Priority support
The Max plan comes fully equipped with everything the Scale plan has to offer, plus these additional features and perks. It’s perfect for anyone, or any organization that’s really looking to take their newsletter to the next level.

How does this stack up against other platforms?
We have a reputation for two things:
Relentlessly shipping features and improving our product at an unheard of pace.
Making our software as affordable and accessible as possible.
