Maximize Your Content Creation Strategy With ChatGPT
How This AI Chatbot Improves Keyword Research, SEO, and Open Rate
From one content creator to another, we get it.
Coming up with ideas for your blog or newsletter, generating an outline, bringing all your amazing plans from concept to completion… It can be extremely time-consuming, especially for an individual marketer or small business.
If only there were a marketing professional that you could consult, free of charge, who lived inside of your computer and could help speed up your brainstorming process by an incredible amount!
Well, that’s where ChatGPT comes in: an artificial intelligence chatbot that will maximize your content creation process, generate effective SEO keywords that will get you ranked, and even assist you in designing the best newsletter possible to get you the conversions and opens you want.
What is ChatGPT?
You’ve likely heard about AI taking the digital world by storm–and if you haven’t, well, we recommend getting up to speed. Launched in November 2022 by OpenAI, ChatGPT is the most powerful conversational AI platform available–And using it is as simple as chatting with your friends on Discord.
You can sign up for a free account on OpenAI here. Or, if you’re looking to download it to your Mac or PC, check this video out! (Since it’s such a widely used platform, you may find ChatGPT at capacity. You can input your email to be notified when it’s available again.)
After signing up, you’ll be brought to a page that looks like a chat platform. Here, you can type in a prompt for ChatGPT to respond to.
Yep, it’s that easy.
Here’s how you can use this powerful AI to become a better newsletter writer and content marketer today!
How To Use ChatGPT To Create Content
You can type in anything you want into ChatGPT to get a response. That can be overwhelming.
Here are some quick prompt ideas to get you started building an AI-assisted content strategy. We recommend trying them out and seeing what you get. Be sure to tinker with your wording to get better results.
Start with, “Act like a digital marketer.” This will prime the chatbot to start thinking like a content creator, and you’ll get a response like you see above. You don’t have to start with this, but we’ve learned that this makes your following prompts more effective.
“As a professional digital marketer, come up with a list of ten blog ideas about…” Yes, it’s as easy as that. ChatGPT will spit out ten pitches that you can choose from. If they don’t hit the mark, feel free to add more specificity. Let’s say you’re running an amazing cryptocurrency website and want to write a blog about learning the ropes. See this screenshot of the ideas it generated around becoming a better cryptocurrency trader.
“Generate a list of search engine optimized keywords around…” One of the easiest things you can have ChatGPT do is help you come up with the focus keyphrases that will get you ranked in Google. Using the previous prompt to generate blog ideas, you can say something like, “Generate a list of search engine optimized keywords around blog idea 8 from your previous answer.” You can even have ChatGPT create your SEO meta description, too! Make sure the prompts you are getting are best designed for SEO with this Blog Post SEO checklist.
“Create an outline based on keywords…” This will easily give you a basic blog outline that you can run with. You may not get something perfect, but most of the time, all we need is a place to start–and ChatGPT's outline will be perfect for that. You can also have ChatGPT generate a list of frequently asked questions about a topic, which is perfect for creating sections for your blog.
“Write ten compelling newsletter subject lines that will get a high open rate.” Coming up with blog titles and subject lines is where a lot of us lose precious time. What’s going to get opens? What will make people want to read my content? These questions rack our brains for minutes to hours at a time. ChatGPT can help steer you in the right direction using this simple prompt! Use this guide on crafting the most eye-catching subject lines alongside ChatGPT’s recommendations to develop even better results.
What Can’t ChatGPT Do?
Using a simple chatbot to help with all of these tedious content-creation tasks might sound too good to be true. The beautiful thing is, it’s not. But ChatGPT does have its limitations.
ChatGPT’s Data Set
The biggest limitation is that OpenAI’s platform is trained on data before 2021. So, if you wanted to come up with article ideas about ChatGPT, for example, the chatbot will try–but since it wasn’t created until 2022, your results might not be up to date. Keep this in mind, especially when creating blogs and newsletters focused on current events.
Using ChatGPT To Write a Blog
You can ask ChatGPT to write your blog for you. However, there are a few issues with this. First of all, while the content could be convincing for some readers, many people can still tell the difference between human and AI-generated content.
Secondly, Google has restrictions on AI-generated content–and yes, Google can determine this pretty well. They’ve developed their chatbot, LaMDA, which allegedly is so human-like it has fooled real people. So it’s safe to say Google knows what is written by a chatbot and what is not.
All of this is to say that Google will penalize your blog’s search rankings if it is determined that an AI authored it. It’s also possible that content created by AI platforms will have hidden watermarks shortly.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have it write a blog, and then edit it yourself. Use this AI Content Detector to determine if your final draft will set off Google’s AI restrictions.
Does ChatGPT have emotions?
ChatGPT isn’t programmed to perfectly convey human emotions, and doesn’t feel any of them–so we would recommend avoiding any prompts that require it to give any emotional input or opinions.
